Pinc Louds
Artist Bio
Pinc Louds’ lead singer, Claudi, moved from Puerto Rico to NYC in 2015 to fulfill her dream of playing in the subway. Through the literal underground she met the many creatures, musicians and artists that would turn Pinc Louds into the full-blown spectacle they are today. Their passionate shows with wild theatrics and giant puppets have been packing NYC venues such as (le)Poisson Rouge, Elsewhere, Joe’s Pub, and Knitting Factory ever since.
With members hailing from Chile (Raimundo Atal, drums), Israel (Ofer Bear, bass), NY (Marc Mosteirin, keyboard and bass) and Puerto Rico (Claudi, vocals, guitar, kalimba; Pele, percussion, backup vocals), Pinc Louds draws influences from such diverse artists as Pixies, Billie Holiday, Os Mutantes, Ismael Rivera and Daniel Johnston.
Their songs have the melodic sensibility of a 1920’s crooner mixed with the psychedelic danceability of tropicalia and the bright harmonies of the most delectable doowop records… But in essence, they are a rock band. Gritty, sincere, thrilled to be alive.
Their live shows range from punk-y dance parties to elaborate immersive musicals in which audiences are invited to pillow fight, search for sunken treasures or ride out a nuclear apocalypse in a rat-infested subway station.
Their puppets are made and given life by Jamie McGann, Madison Berg, Kevin Perez and Jamie Emerson.
Nothing sounds quite like Pinc Louds. This was apparent in their self-titled first EP (2017), which displayed their unique blend of influences and their obsession with diving into the darkness only to explode like a heart-broken piñata, spewing candy, joy and tears onto anyone lucky enough to be in the way.
Their 2018 album, Delancey St. Station, (named after the subway station that gave Claudi her livelihood and an infinite amount of inspiration during the first three years of the band) showcases even more of the band’s musical range and emotional depth. The first track “Soul in My Body” makes you dance to a swinging kalimba groove while pondering about the existence of the soul. Meanwhile “Babies!” is the catchiest punk song that will make you want to mosh and fall in love at the same time.
2020 has seen the release of two Pinc Louds singles, “Hopscotch” and “Tiger Song”. The first, a pots-and-pans punk/gospel explosion about the end of times. The second, a piano-drenched insomnia ballad that dives into the complications of domestic life.
Their next video and single, to be released in October, is “Spellbound”. A magical concoction of a song, full of haunting melodies, bubble sounds and the power of flight.
In addition to this, Pinc Louds is currently cooking up an EP of their newest (and dancy-est) songs in Spanish, to be released by the end of the year.
With music venues closed due to COVID-19, the band has found a new home at Tompkins Square Park where, throughout the summer, hundreds of socially-distant spectators and dancers come to see them every Saturday and Wednesday. Through sorcery and music, the band is bringing NYC back to life. Not just from the depths of a tragic pandemic, but from a decades-long slumber which, we pray, is finally over.
